Satisfied guest remembers Shreveport's Chateau Suite Hotel before it becomes Holiday Inn Express and Suites

Editor's note: This article is a personal reflection by a guest of Chateau Suite Hotel before it becomes Holiday Inn Express & Suites. It is expected to welcome its first guests under the new name during the first week of July, 2019 at 201 Lake Street in Shreveport.

The Chateau Suite lobby had not been redecorated in quite some time, though the its interior was clean and the staff I encountered were friendly. My original hotel reservation fell through and I needed something quickly.

I was desperate. It was late and I had a presentation to prepare in addition to an early wake-up the next morning. Some big event was going on in Shreveport at the time and there were simply no affordable rooms to be had. Thankfully, the clerk was able to come up with discounted rate, which was extremely  helpful.

Located directly off the Interstate 20, I found the gated parking area to be somewhat of a good sign of quality and attention to detail.

My room was spacious with a nicely sized common room, a full size galley kitchen, an adequate bathroom and an expansive bedroom. Although the furniture upholstery was worn, it covered sturdy, well made pieces.

The overall decor was dated and the entire set of rooms needed remodeling. However, the space gave a feeling of what you might call "comfort-ability" - like staying at the home of an older relative, or visiting the shabby genteel vacation cottage of a friend.

Functional, tidy and perfectly usable. Perhaps not fancy and certainly not the ultra delight Remington Suite Hotel seven blocks away, but satisfying nonetheless.

Each night I slept soundly-- considering the hotel's location is between Market and Spring Streets and adjacent to the busy I-20 mixmaster. Though I never had a chance to stay at the Chateau Suite again, I fondly recall the week I spent there.

I hope Holiday Inn Express and Suites can retain some of the decaying, yet appealing charm, while offering more modern amenities.
